By the Tripzoy team · 4 min read
Short answer
May to September is the main season, when roads from Manali and Srinagar are open and most camps and hotels operate.
May and June
Clear skies and open roads, with cold nights and sometimes leftover snow on high passes. A popular time for bike trips.
July and August
Warmest months and the best time for Nubra and Pangong. Road conditions can be affected by rain and landslides on the approach roads.
September
Fewer crowds, crisp weather and good photography light. Nights are cold.
October to April
Roads from Manali and Srinagar are usually closed in winter. Leh can be reached by air, and winter trips suit experienced travellers, such as Chadar or snow leopard seekers.
Altitude tips
Leh sits at about 3,500 m. Rest on the first day, drink water, avoid alcohol and ascend gradually. Speak to a doctor if you have health conditions.
