Kashmir Honeymoon Itinerary: 5 Nights, 6 Days

By the Tripzoy team · 5 min read

The plan at a glance

Srinagar houseboat (1 night) → Gulmarg (1 night) → Pahalgam (2 nights) → Srinagar hotel (1 night), with Sonmarg as a day trip. It balances travel and rest, and covers the places most couples want to see.

Day 1: Srinagar and Dal Lake

Land in Srinagar and check in to a houseboat on Dal or Nigeen Lake. In the afternoon, visit the Mughal gardens (Nishat and Shalimar), then take a shikara ride at sunset.

Day 2: Srinagar to Gulmarg

Drive about 2 hours to Gulmarg. Take the gondola: Phase 1 to Kongdori and, if the weather allows, Phase 2 towards Apharwat. In winter, try sledging or a short ski lesson. Stay the night for a quiet evening in the meadow.

Day 3: Gulmarg to Pahalgam

A longer drive of about 4 hours via Srinagar, passing saffron fields at Pampore and the cricket-bat workshops near Sangam. Evening by the Lidder river.

Day 4: Pahalgam

Visit Betaab Valley, Aru Valley and Chandanwari in local union taxis (outside cabs aren't allowed to most points). A pony ride to Baisaran meadow is popular. Keep the evening free.

Day 5: Sonmarg day trip and Srinagar

Drive to Sonmarg for the Thajiwas glacier, then return to a hotel in Srinagar for the last night. If you prefer an easy day, skip Sonmarg and spend the afternoon shopping for pashmina and walnut wood in Srinagar.

Day 6: Departure

Transfer to Srinagar airport. Reach early: security checks at Srinagar airport take longer than at most airports.

Best time and booking tips

April to June and September to October are pleasant; December to February brings snow. The tulip garden opens for a few weeks around late March and April. Book the houseboat and gondola tickets early in peak months, and remember prepaid SIM cards from other states don't work in Kashmir.

FAQs

Is one night on a houseboat enough?

For most couples, yes. One night gives you the experience; a hotel the next nights is more comfortable.

Can we do Kashmir in 4 nights?

Yes: Srinagar, Gulmarg as a day trip and 2 nights in Pahalgam. It is a little rushed.

What should we pack?

Warm layers in every season, comfortable shoes, sunglasses and sunscreen. In winter, proper snow boots and gloves.
